WHAT GOT ME INTO FILM?
I was around 8 years old when I stood on the set of Passions (Soap Opera). My aunt, Lisa de Cazotte was a producer at the time. I remember seeing a couple girls my age in the dressing room getting their costumes on. I wanted to be those girls. I wanted to be involved somehow. I became obsessed with the magic of it all, especially when I saw the same scene I watched in person air on TV the next day. At age 12, I started making my own videos. But instead of making full movies, I would only make the trailers for them. Which funny enough, is what I want to do now (trailer editing). Editing always made more sense to me than physically holding a camera, or directing actors. I love it because editing a sequence is just another puzzle I get to solve.
THOUGHTS ON EDITING
Timing and intuition are everything to me when I am in editing mode. I also weirdly enjoy sorting bins and organizing files. Scrambling, unscrambling, envisioning, and creating is what I do best. Editing has deeply effected the way I process and deal with new information, situations, and how I solve problems in life. Editing has taught me how to expand and narrow my focus, and has given me a lot of insight on human emotions, empathy, and how to "control" time. As an editor I think of myself like a conductor in an orchestra, deciding what plays when, and at what intensity/softness, all to create a deeper feeling or meaning in someone. I knew I wanted to be an editor at 12 years old. I am still just as excited and obsessed with it now.
WHAT DO I WANT?
At this moment in my life, I'd like to learn as much as I can about what I like to do. So far I've learned that I really love making movie trailers, and sound designing projects. This feeling has exponentially grown since I started working for Peacock. In the future, I'd also like to edit full episodes of a series, or edit a full feature length movie. Apart from editing, my way later in life goal is to direct a feature film and also dive into the world of animation and writing.
